Private Collection: Wooden Carved Water-Moon Guanyin Statue (4)

Likewise with Buddhism itself, Buddhist statue originated in India and was introduced to China over a long time. There are three general forms of Buddhist practice in Asia: Han or Chinese Buddhism, Tibetan Buddhism, and Theravada Buddhism. These forms developed varying styles of Buddhist statue.

Guanyin is the most commonly used Chinese translation of the bodhisattva known as Avalokitesvara. In Chinese mythology, Guanyin is the goddess of mercy and considered to be the physical embodiment of compassion. He is one of the most popular deities in the pantheons of Buddhism. Water Moon Guanyin is one of the 33 forms of Guanyin Bodhisattva in Chinese Buddhism. In this form, Guanyin Bodhisattva shows a relaxed posture and raises his right leg.

This Wooden Carved Water-Moon Guanyin Statue is the Chinese Buddhism style.
